I Watched the Watchmen

I saw Watchmen this morning.

From the Cole and Dylan scenes from the beginning, to the final scene, yes. The music was perfect. The scenes were perfect. The sets, the costumes, the acting was perfect.

From the moment they announced Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach, I knew it would be okay.

It was obviously lovingly crafted Of The Fans, For The Fans, and By The Fans.

Obviously they wouldn't get Moore's blessing, but then, nothing would.

I almost believe this would.

I want to see it again. I want to read it again, then watch and critique and understand.

I loved it.

Because it was so clearly crafted with love, I was okay.

The music was AMAZING.

Not since High Fidelity have I felt so profoundly understood by the director's choice of music.

I do not make that claim lightly.

Every musical choice made sense. I do not often feel that way when I watch movies.

I do not know if non-fans would enjoy it.

As a longtime comics fan, as someone who has lived in that subculture, I can't say whether my knowledge affected my appreciation. All I can say is that I loved it, and that it told the story I hoped it would tell.

I suppose that is the best I can say.

If you are a fan, go see it.

If you are not a fan, I hope you enjoy it.

If you have no familiarity, I cannot project the outcome, but I still hope you enjoy it.
