ATX 50 Shades of WTF

One of the "lovely" things about Austin is that they are not shy about advertising adult stores or strip clubs on air, at any time of day. (There's nothing more jarring than hearing an ad for The Landing Strip at 7am...) Today I heard one of the local porn shops advertising on air that it had its shipment of 50 Shades of Gray in, and encouraging customers to buy toys along with it to bring their fantasies to life. We have gone from "this book could lead to unsafe play situations" to "this book will lead to unsafe play situations." I am so horrified by this, I can't even.

We've All Been Very Naughty

It's very amusing to me how references to S&M are becoming more and more socially acceptable. I mean, it's awesome. The more people who think "different strokes for different folks" and "live and let live," the better. It's just that I've been running into these things in the oddest places...

For instance, the card aisle at Duane Reade:

Front of card:

Interior of card:

Then, this past Monday, Dude Boss sent me to the fine intellectuals at Kinkos to laminate signs for the new office space. I saw a large sign waiting to be picked up, advertising spankings from Mrs. Claus on assigned days. I was shocked, and wondered if perhaps there was some crazy party I hadn't heard about.

But then I walked past the costume store near the old office space today when I went there to drop off keys.

This is what I saw:

The sign I saw at Kinko's!

We truly live in interesting times.

Praise the Lord and Pass the Parsnips!!!

Remember that post I made talking about the endings of series and how they can go wrong?

Terry Moore posted a piece of art that makes it all better. In terms of Strangers in Paradise, anyway.

Thank you, Terry. Was that so difficult? ;)

(Seriously, it's gorgeous, and brings more closure than babies and closing the door to the fourth wall ever could.)

Big Changes in Stapler Land

Hey there, Stapler fans!

I have some very good news!

My red stapler is no longer on a desk at an Internet Direct Marketing Firm!

That's right, kids: I have a new job!

I will let my newly-edited "About" section give the most information until the website is up.

For now, let it be said I feel so cool for being a feminist in an adult-oriented industry.

I feel like I'm actually doing what I write about:

Showing the world that women can be sexy on their terms, in a fun, smart, intelligent way.

This is gonna be GREAT.
